Womens History
All through March Women’s History Month was celebrated. I love reading about strong, brave women in history. But I know the strong women who set an example for me daily will not be in in those stories.
These are the women I believe I came from. I believe I come from settlers and immigrants. Women leaving homelands and setting out on the prairie in sod houses. I come from strong women who purposefully contributed to their families and to each other. I come from sisters not my own. My grandparents sisters and my aunts, planning, supporting, and loving together. Women with compassion for others and a strong sense of family.
I come from a busy kitchen, always filled with wonderful aromas and everyone tending to the steaming pots and roasting pans. Always plenty of food, enough for the army of hungry eaters.
I come from a sea of women who taught me, encouraged me, and put me back on the path when I was in the weeds.
I stand with my current bank of women, changing the world. Changing the world with their daily actions, their small acts and their example.
I have a history of women. A rich history. And one full of inspiration and hope.
